Four Russian warships from the Caspian Sea Fleet launched twenty-six missiles against ISIL positions in Syria, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced. The Russian Navy entered the campaign against the Islamic State, another step taken by Russia to inflict even more damage to the terrorist organization.

The four warships were sailing near the northern coast of Iran. The launches were coordinated with Iran and Iraq since the missiles had to travel through their airspace to reach Syria.

Fortunately, the twenty-six missiles hit all intended ISIL targets and no civilian casualties have been reported.

Last week, Vladimir Putin approved airstrikes in support to the Syrian government against ISIL, and more than 120 sorties have been conducted since.
