The Russian Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) will rearm two more division with RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The rearmament phase is already undergoing, according to SMF Commander Col. Gen. Sergey Karakayev.
“We are continuing on a regular basis the production and deployment on combat duty [of Yars missile systems]…and started the rearmament of two more divisions — the Yoshkar-Ola and the Irkutsk divisions,” Karakayev said in an interview with Rossiya-24 television.
The RS-24 Yars is capable of reaching targets up to 11,000 kilometers. According to armyrecognition.com, “the RS-24 missile can be armed with up to 10 warheads.” It is also MIRV-capable (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles). With its Mach 20 (24,500 km/h) speed, the RS-24 Yars ICBM could reach its maximum distance in less than 30 minutes. Its guidance system is inertial with the Glonass system and has an accuracy of 150-250 meters.
