About The Sentinel
I am an independent Canadian analyst focused on defence, security, geopolitics, and the rapidly changing character of modern warfare — with special attention to the Arctic, NATO, Russia, and Canada’s military posture.
My name is Jonathan Wade, C.D.. I served fourteen years in the Canadian Armed Forces (2000–2014). In 2009, I deployed to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, as part of an Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (OMLT) embedded with the Afghan National Army, where I advised and fought alongside Afghan soldiers.
Since leaving the military, I have maintained a continuous, in-depth study of Russian military developments, Arctic security, NATO affairs, and strategic policy. I am fluent in English and French and am currently learning Russian.
The goal of The Sentinel is to cut through the noise and provide clear, well-sourced, independent analysis grounded in real experience — helping readers better understand Canada’s security challenges and the defence of our sovereignty.
Opinions expressed are my own.
